Throughout the course, you’ll learn fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. You will also earn a PADI Open Water Diver certification that is recognized worldwide. You earn this rating by completing five confined water and knowledge development modules and by making four open water ocean dives.
As a certified PADI Open Water Diver you have the freedom to dive with a buddy independent of a professional. If you already tried a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience or are PADI Scuba Diver certified, check with your instructor to see how credit from these courses may apply to the open water program. Your underwater adventure can begin as soon as today. Open water learning options also include group or private instruction. This course offers tremendous flexibility and lets you work out individual needs with your instructor.
Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water can earn a PADI Open Water Diver certification. At some point in the course, your PADI Instructor will ask you to demonstrate the ability to swim 200 meters/yards without swim aids or 300 meters/yards with mask, fins and snorkel and complete a bit of paperwork, to get you on your way. If you are between 10 and 14 or have a child between these ages, there is a PADI Junior Open Water Diver program available.
Course Requirement:
- Minimum 10 years old.
- Be able to swim 200 meters or 300 meters snorkeling swim.
- Be able to float on water without any swimming aids for 10 minutes.
Student to instructor ratio => 4 : 1
The following steps are the procedures for the course registration:
STEP 1: REGISTRATION
Please register at least 1 week in advance prior to the commencement of lecture 1. 2 Color Passport size Photos (Good Quality) is required for certification purposes. The Participant has to come down to Downtown Divers to fill up and sign the Student Profile, Liability Releases and Medical Statement. Generally Participant should be in good health status, otherwise a doctor's opinion should be seek when in doubt.
Upon Registration, participant will receive the dive manual and dive planner for self study prior to next lesson. It will approximately take 6 to 8 hrs or 1 week for the self study. Participants will have to complete all 5 knowledge reviews in the dive manual prior to the lecture, where you'll hand in to the PADI Instructor
STEP 2: THEORY
The lecture sessions will be held over 2 evenings at 1900hrs at Downtown Divers, where the quiz and Exam will be administered at the same time.. Students are required to score at least 75% as a passing score. The PADI Instructor will then go through the specific mistakes. The passing criteria is MASTERY of diving knowledge.
STEP 3: CONFINED WATER
The confined water session is to develop the skills required for safe diving.
STEP 4: OPEN SEA EVALUATION
This is to ensure that dive skills taught in the confined water are of mastery level by the participant. And not forgetting the assurance of safe diving practices are reinforced in the open sea.
